Kimonos for Every Body
I want to talk a little more about plus-size kimonos, because I really believe beautiful kimono designs should be available for every body.
Over the years, I’ve made kimonos in many different sizes, including for clients who need a lot more room than a standard size can offer. One of the largest custom kimonos I’ve made was for a client with a 170 cm hip measurement -and I was very happy to make it for her. ❤️
I never want size to be a reason someone thinks, “This kimono isn’t for me.”
When I make a larger or custom-size kimono, I don’t just add extra fabric and call it a day. I also look carefully at the print placement, because I want the design to look intentional and beautiful on the finished garment.
A flower shouldn’t accidentally disappear under the obi just because the kimono is a larger size. A beautiful motif shouldn’t end up somewhere awkward simply because the proportions have changed.
So with custom sizes, I take the time to work out how the artwork should sit on your body and your measurements.
